A Knoxville High School student has been chosen as one of the recipients of a prestigious scholarship.

Atlee Moss has been awarded the Matthew Shepard Memorial Scholarship, which is presented each year to a select few Iowa high school seniors who openly identify as members of the LGBTQ community.

She was selected after going through a long selection process, which included letters of recommendation and an interview by a nine-member panel.

As part of the scholarship, Atlee will receive up to $14,000 of funding for each year of college, and attend workshops tailored to LGBTQ students.
