pleasantville-3

A plan for an updated 7-12 math curriculum was presented by Pleasantville High teachers at the Pleasantville School Board meeting Tuesday night.

The proposals given would not require purchase of new textbooks, but would work as supplemental materials for the Iowa Core standard materials already in place.

In this new plan, all 8th graders would take Algebra 1 after preparatory classes taught in 7th grade. This Algebra 1 class will be given as a mathematics credit, but will not affect a students high school GPA. Students will then be put on an appropriate path based on aptitude shown in Algebra 1.

This should ensure that all students have an opportunity to get needed attention, while also offering an earlier advanced path for those who wish to pursue mathematics for ACT and College preparation.

The board then voted to approve the 2020 budget as publicly posted earlier this year. Also approved were new hires and resignations for several positions.
