A newly-formed committee will be spending the next few months looking at the Knoxville School District’s facilities, to examine what needs to be added or improved.

Eighteen people were approved for membership on the committee during Monday night’s Knoxville School Board meeting; they come from a cross-section of the community and the school district.

Superintendent Cassi Pearson tells KNIA/KRLS News they will be asked to come up with a plan for the district to follow.

“Make a five- to six-year road map for work on our facilities and improvements we can continue to make; just to add one more layer, I think, to the great educational opportunities we offer here in Knoxville. And we want our facilities to be great educational experiences for our kids, as well,” Pearson says.

This committee will examine everything within the district; classrooms, buildings, sports fields and venues, anything which is put to use by and for students.

They’ll have a recently-finished assessment to work with, and will be expected to submit a report on their findings to the board this fall.
