The No. 10 Lady Dutch Golf team upset No. 2 Grinnell at home by five strokes Tuesday evening, winning 181 to 186. Leading scorers were runner-up medalist Karissa Galeazzi (44), Lindsey Roose (45), Halie Veenstra (45), and Lauren Van Wyk (47). Pella’s girls are next in action Monday at Indianola. The No. 3 ranked Pella’s boys golf team finished 2nd in a loaded Oskaloosa Invitational, shooting a season low 304. No. 4 Nevada finished in 1st at 298, No. 2 Norwalk placed 4th at 320, and No. 11 Oskaloosa shot 327 for 5th. Freshman Will Simpson was the meet medalist, carding a 72. John Oltman shot 75, Luke Galeazzi an 77, and Trey Wood an 80. A busy week for the Dutch continues on Thursday at the Moravia tournament.

Both the Pella boys and girls track and field teams made the trip to the Grinnell Tiger Relays yesterday. Pella’s boys dominated a small field including Newton and host Grinnell, scoring 112.5 team points and winning 16 of the 19 events. First place finishes included Xavion Huizinga in the 100 meters (11.67), Jordan Buma in the 200 (23.06), Karl Miller in the 400 (51.63), Tony Schmitz in the 800 (2:01.99), Buma won the 110 hurdles (15.25), Josiah Wittenberg swept the mile and two mile (4:37.67, 10:27.11), Nolan Clayberg ran 1:00.88 i the 400 hurdles, and Huizinga also won the long jump at 19-03.5. Nick DeJong had the longest shot put toss (56-03.5) and Kody Huisman threw the farthest discus (158-03). The Sprint Medley Relay, Shuttle Hurdle Relay, 4×100, 4×400 and Distance Medley all claimed first as well. The Lady Dutch placed 2nd in a field of six teams, scoring 161 points, just 4.5 behind Southeast Polk. Pella had a 1-2 finish in the 100 meter dash with Emily McMartin (12.81) and Metsje Miller (13.00), Miller winning the 200 meters (26.42), Emily Holterhaus earned 1st in the 100 meter hurdles (16.37), and Caroline McMartin won the 3000 meters with a school record of 10:39.62, beating the previous record held by current UNI Distance Runner Tess Roorda. Pella also had 1st place finishes in the 4×100 (Metsje Miller, Maggie Renaud, Emily McMartin, Roselande Vanderhoff – 51.04) and Sprint Medley Relays (Emily McMartin, Maggie Renaud, Roslande Vanderhoff, Elsie Thoreson – 1:52.83). A group of Little and Lady Dutch athletes will head to the Drake Relays, and the rest of the teams will compete at their home meet Thursday.

In a thriller that came down to the final minute, the No. 7 Pella boys soccer team lost 3-2 to No.11 ranked Newton last night. Pella fell behind early, but got one back from Jackson Goodyk to tie, before the Cardinals scored again. In a wild final three minutes, Pella’s Ben Nelson tied the game 2-2, only for Newton to find the clinching shot with less than 60 seconds left in regulation. Pella will host ADM and Creston Saturday in the Tulip Time Tournament. No. 3 Pella defeated Newton 3-0 on the road. The Lady Dutch had goals from Grace Held and Ellie Howard. The 6-1 Lady Dutch host No. 6 in 1A Nevada Thursday at the Pella Sports Complex.
