Madison Elementary School, in partnership with the Pella Police Department and Marion County Emergency Management, conducted a reunification safety exercise Friday afternoon. The Pella Community School District has been working hard to this school year to review procedures and stay prepared in the event of a safety threat, according to Madison Principal John Steddom. The drill included a run-through of procedures for school officials and law enforcement to reunite children with their families after emergencies. He says the security of students and staff remains a priority and they appreciate the continued support from the Pella Police Department, emergency response teams, and the community in helping keep schools safe. Lt. Shane Cox says the drill was another way to ensure the public is safe in the event of school-related emergencies. The reunification drill was part of a broad district effort to enhance security in all buildings, with several enhancements planned this summer.
