Fire struck Tuesday morning at a home which local historians say is the oldest standing home in Knoxville.

Firefighters were called to 714  East Robinson just before 7:30 a.m. On arrival they found smoke throughout the house, from a fire which began in the kitchen.

Fire personnel removed kitchen cabinets while checking for hot spots in the home, and cleared smoke from the premises. The fire was apparently started by an appliance on a kitchen counter top.

No injuries were reported, and damage from the fire is estimated at $10,000.

Marion County real estate records indicate the house is deeded to Kaliegh Sage; it was first built in 1847, and has stood for 172 years.
