A Pella High School senior has been recognized for her contribution to jazz music. Hanna Blom was selected as the 2019 Dick Redman Excellence in Jazz Award winner, named after the director of the Pella Jazz I program from 1981-2006. Blom was honored by the recognition, considering Redman’s legacy of success in music at the school.
“That is a huge honor to me, just because jazz band has been probably one of the biggest parts of my life so far, especially in high school,” Blom says. “It’s been a really fun experience and a great group of people, and we’ve gotten to learn so much.”
The annual award is given to one senior that carries on the dedication and musicianship of Redman, and previous winners include Erica Nossaman in 2018 and Ryan Van Maanen in 2017. Hear more from Blom about her music career at Pella High School on today’s Let’s Talk Pella.
