Work is continuing on a new camping area inside Roberts Creek Park East, with the goal of having it ready for occupancy by August.

Twenty-seven new campsites are being developed for the park, which overlooks the Roberts Creek dam and causeway. Each will have water, sewer and electric hookups.

Ranger Mike Kalkwarf from the Marion County Conservation Department tells KNIA/KRLS News weather has been delaying work on the new campsites.

“On the website we posted that we’re anticipating an August start date; I would hope that it would be sometime in July, but a lot of that’s weather-dependent. We’re kind of hitting a little bit of a delay here with the rain; so once it dries out we’ll start working on it again and we’ll just see how it goes,” Kaklwarf says.

While the existing campgrounds are filling up for this weekend, and extra capacity will be needed for Nationals, Kalkwarf says they need the extra space throughout the camping season to accommodate visitors during holiday weekends and vacations.
