The rich tradition of domination continued for the Pella track and field teams after they swept the Gilbert District meet Friday.

Pella’s girls scored 203 points and the boys racked up 175 to claim the first place banners for the event, with the Lady Dutch automatically qualifying 18 total entries and the boys earning 12 spots at the state meet. Both teams have several athletes in the mix for at-large bids as well.

Pella Christian will send athletes to the state track and field meet in Des Moines after a handful of Eagles earned automatic bids at the Eddyville track Friday.

Allison Van Gorp qualified in both the shot put and discuss and Erica Nikkel did so in the 100 meter dash. Blake Veenstra swept up spots in both the shot and discus for the boys, as did the 4×400 relay of Bryant Agre, Jayden Huisman, Lucas Bandstra, and Nathan De Bruin. Head Coach Keith Anderson says they had several top four finishes that could earn at-large bids for both teams as well.
