Indianola lawyer Kimberly Graham recently announced her candidacy to run in the Democratic Party primary for the Iowa Senate election in 2020, running against incumbent Republican Joni Ernst. Graham announced her intention to run at Buxton Park in Indianola Tuesday evening, and she tells KNIA News her reasons for seeking the seat are similar to why she went to law school.
“I don’t care about being a lawyer because it sounds good, or any other reason. I care about being a lawyer because it lets me help people. Because somehow that designation gets me in the door, or people will take my calls, or whatever it is. And I feel the exact same way about being a Senator. What I care about being a Senator for is I hope that it will allow me to actually help real people, with real problems, just like I do as an advocate for kids in court now.”
Graham is currently the only candidate to have officially announced their intention to run in the primary, with former Governor Tom Vilsack having declined and Representative Cindy Axne of Iowa’s 3rd District running for re-election to Congress.
