VFW Post 5242 is hosting the annual City of Pella Memorial Day service. American Legion Post 89 in Pella is partnering with the organization to remember veterans who have lost their lives. The remembrance ceremony will be held at the Pella Memorial Building on Sunday at 2 p.m. VFW Post Commander Patrick Stark says LTC (Retired) Russell Bossard will be speaking during the approximately one hour program. Legion member Myron Linn will be the Master of Ceremonies, which includes a tribute to veterans who died in the past year. VFW Vice Commander Ken Hoksbergen will read the poem “Come Visit My Grave,” the local Boy Scouts will place a wreath, and the Honor Guard will be firing a rifle salute and Taps will be sounded. The American Legion Auxiliary will also be holding the traditional poppy fundraiser this week at Walmart and on Friday at the Pella Hy-Vee and Fareway, with proceeds benefiting support programs for military veterans and their families.
