Knoxville is sending one team and three individuals to state tournaments this week.

For the second time in school history, the Panthers boys soccer team has qualified for state; they won their Class 2A substate final on Saturday by beating Pella 2-1. The game went two overtimes tied at a goal apiece, and Knoxville then won on penalty kicks 4-2.

They advance to meet top-seeded Cedar Rapids Xavier at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

Also advancing to state tournaments are the girls tennis doubles team of Alex Griggs and Anna Sanderson and girls golf player Amy Sullivan, who will play at Otter Creek in Ankeny.
