A memorial service was held at the Indianola IOOF (Independent Order of Odd Fellows) Cemetery Monday, in honor of the Memorial Day. State Representative Scott Ourth was the guest speaker of the event, which also had performances from local students singing America the Beautiful and the National Anthem.
American Legion Post 165 Commander James Sullivan tells KNIA News Memorial Day can be very moving.
“This is a posthumous award for those who have fallen in defense of our nation, and people came out rain or shine today. It is an honor to come and represent those people and give them the honors they are due.”
Despite pouring rain, an estimated 50 people attended the service. Preceding the service, the annual Indianola Memorial Day Parade went around the square, with over 30 groups participating including the Pride of Indianola Marching Band, local scout troops, service departments, and politicians.
