Central College is accepting applications for its Future Ready Iowa: Summer Youth Internship Program. The six-week initiative runs July 8 to Aug. 16 and is designed for low-income students at risk of not graduating high school. Central recently received a $50,000 grant to create a high-demand career internship program in conjunction with Central, Pella Corporation, PPI, and Vermeer. The Iowa Association of Business and Industry is collaborating with Central to include one week of Business Horizons participation during the program. The summer program offers selected students a meaningful and developmental summer work experience, while interacting with college and workforce professionals in a mentoring relationship. Students will have a paid internship, the chance to intern and/or job shadow at the participating organizations; upon successful completion, students will be eligible for a $1,500 scholarship and one college credit should they chose to attend Central. Transportation also will be provided. Central is looking for 10 students who are residents of Marion County and who may be risk of not graduating, from a low-income household and/or from communities underrepresented in the Iowa workforce and face barriers to work success. Contact Michelle Wilkie at Central College for more information and find an application at the Central College website. Applications are due June 10th.
