The Pella Christian and Pella softball teams participated in the Oskaloosa invitational Saturday. The Eagles split their games, winning 10-0 over Chariton and falling to Knoxville 8-3, and the Lady Dutch were swept, losing to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont 8-0 and West Burlington 4-2.

For the Eagles, their best offensive performance of the season was highlighted by two different types of home runs against the Chargers — Ivy Terpstra hit one passed the centerfielder and was able to do so inside the park, while Cheyanne Collins blasted one well over the center field wall. Collins finished game two 4-for-4, and Anna Bonnett had a single and a triple.

After walks and errors plagued the Lady Dutch in their opener against the Rockets, a much closer game featured a Maddy Rempe two-run double in the afternoon to give Pella a lead in the 3rd. But West Burlington went largely station to station in a three-run fourth inning. Madison Parks struck out eight batters in the game two effort.

The Eagles improve to 3-2 and welcome Colfax-Mingo to Eagle Lane Tuesday. Pella falls to 4-2, and will head to Indianola to open the conference season with a doubleheader, all of which can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS beginning at 5:15. Pella’s baseball games with Indianola can also be heard on 94.3 KNIA at the same time.

The Pella Christian baseball team was in tournament action Saturday as well, placing 3rd in the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont invitational. The Eagles fell 9-2 in the opener against the home Rockets, and bounced back against Pekin 8-4 in the consolation game. The Eagles baseball team returns to action Wednesday in a doubleheader at Norwalk.
