A lawsuit was filed against a Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy in May, stemming from an auto accident in July of 2017. In the lawsuit, Mark Joseph Mullen and Tina Maureen Lee-Chenet claim that Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy Duane Lee Reed had finished up a traffic stop in the westbound lane of county road G-62 near Pershing when he allegedly made an illegal u-turn causing an accident between Reed’s patrol car and a motorcycle that was being driven by Mullen with Lee-Chenet as passenger, causing injury to both Mullen and Lee-Chenet. According to Iowa State Patrol’s accident report, both Mullen and Lee-Chenet were transported by ambulance to Knoxville Hospital and Clinics for treatment. According to the lawsuit, Mullen and Lee-Chenet are seeking medical expenses and restitution for pain and suffering. On Monday, a jury trial was set for November 16th of 2020.
