The Pella City Council will discuss the future of the Pella Community Center later this summer. City Administrator Mike Nardini says at an upcoming policy and planning meeting, the council will discuss the final results of a facility needs assessment, with a focus on what the city plans to do for future community services needs. Council received an initial report in January from Short Elliott Hendrickson, Inc. The findings showed the Community Center as it currently stands would be difficult to match the needs and desires of the space identified by staff and users. At that meeting, two primary options were presented – renovation of the current facility as a community center, or a brand new building by the Aquatic Center, with repurposing done at the current Community Center. A more thorough analysis with more specific plans and options will be made public at an upcoming council meeting in July.
