The first round of summer heat is cranking up today, continuing through Monday. According to the National Weather Service, daytime highs will reach the low 90s over the next several days, with high humidity leading to heat index values in the upper 90s and at times topping 100 degrees. All residents are reminded to stay hydrated and take plenty of breaks in shade or air conditioning when outdoors. Additionally, all are reminded to never leave a child or pet in a car unattended, as interior temperatures inside vehicles can climb 20 or more degrees in as little as 10 minutes. Dr. Tim Yoder with Tri County Veterinary Clinic in Pella reminds all pet owners to keep a close eye on their animals, especially as it relates to outdoor activities.
