Naloxone–commonly known as Narcan, was recently administered on a Knoxville Police Officer following contact with an unknown substance during a possible drug related investigation. Narcan is an opioid antagonist used for the complete or partial reversal of opioid overdose. Chief Dan Losada with the Knoxville Police Department tells KNIA/KRLS News the department administered the Narcan out of an abundance of caution. He says the officer came in contact with an unknown substance during a possible drug related investigation and felt affects the officer believed to be caused by the substance  and asked that the Narcan be administered. Losada says he has reinforced to his department the current policies referring to the use of protective equipment such as rubber gloves and masks.
