We are halfway through the year 2019, one that has been busy weatherwise in south central Iowa so far. According to data provided by the National Weather Service, the overall temperature has been below average, at 41.7 degrees, compared to 45 in the 30-year normal from 1981-2010. Precipitation has been well above average as well, with 21.6 inches recorded in Marion County, above the 18.25 typically seen in the first six months of the year. Snowfall finished at 51.8 inches for the winter season, well above the 27 inches typically seen in a given season. The National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center predicts generally higher than average precipitation and lower than average temperatures through the end of September in their long-term projections.
