The Indianola RAGBRAI overnight stay is just one week away, as riders will depart from Winterset as early as 6am, traveling through the Iowa Ag Oasis, Cumming, and Norwalk before riding down Highway R63 to make their way into Indianola. Indianola Police Captain Brian Sher tells KNIA News residents along the route in Indianola, which will turn onto Highway 92, north on Y Street, east on Euclid, south on G Street, east on Salem across the highway near the middle and high school. Captain Sher also said residents and commuters near the route should be aware of the increased traffic.
“With the route, at the major intersections there will be law enforcement officers assisting with bicyclists and vehicles crossing. At the less busy intersections there will be volunteers assisting. From the community standpoint, things are going to be a little slower than normal. It’s one day, we appreciate everyone’s patience. But you as a citizen will be able to get one that route if you need to, cross that route if you need to, it’s just gonna take a little bit longer that day.”
The day will also be celebrated as Parkinson’s Awareness Day and honoring Davis Phinney, a former professional bicyclist who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s.
