The difference a few months can make, especially as it relates to water levels in area rivers, streams, and at Lake Red Rock. According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Lake Red Rock has been at normal pool for well over a week, after peaking at 775 feet above sea level in early June, one of the top ten highest marks ever recorded in the 50 years of the Dam. For the first time since October of 2018, a portion of Iowa is listed as abnormally dry on the U.S. Drought Monitor — primarily near the Quad Cities area and in southwest Iowa. Month-to-date precipitation remains below normal in Marion County, with 1.99” recorded by the National Weather Service, just below half of the average of 4.5”.Chances for storms return to the area late Sunday, although little in the way of significant precipitation is expected.
