A Lynnville man died when he became entangled in a sweep auger inside a grain bin in rural Mahaska County this morning. According to the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office, 19 year old Benjamin Raymond Van Wyk was pronounced dead at the scene when several area responders found him after they were dispatched at approximately 8 a.m. to 1466 100th Street in rural Lynnville. Van Wyk was transported to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, and an investigation by the Mahaska County Sheriff’s will continue. Mahaska County Emergency Management, Mahaska County Sheriff’s Reserve, Mahaska County Dispatch, Sully Fire and Ambulance and the Mahaska Health Ambulance Service all responded. Pella Ambulance was also initially paged to assist, but were called off soon after.
