Today we complete the top ten for the Knoxville Panthers with our number one moment of 2018/2019. On a warm Saturday in Pella, the Knoxville Boys Soccer Squad went to the Tulip City to take on their rivals from across the river for a chance to make the class 2A State Tournament. Knoxville took down its rivals for the second time this season and advanced to its second state tournament by a score of 2-1 following a penalty-kick shootout. Knoxville scored the first goal of the game in the 24th minute, and held the lead for most of the duration despite several Pella charges in the second half. Pella tied the game with 1:50 left in regulation. Two overtime periods could not settle the score, so it came down to penalty kicks. Pella took a 2-1 lead before Knoxville hit the final three shots to send the Panthers to the Cownie Sports Complex in Des Moines. Cristian Magana hit the deciding goal just past Pella’s Sam Warner. Knoxville would advance to state to play top seeded Cedar Rapids Xavier on where the Panthers season would end in a 5-0 loss and a record of 14-5.
