A tornado struck Lacona and other portions of southeastern Warren County Tuesday morning, leaving property damage and many residents without power or other services in its wake. Warren County Emergency Management Coordinator Troy Bass tells KNIA News his office responded as early as possible to work with local agencies to perform damage assessment, and to get the city up and running as soon as possible.
“We’ve seen several trees, power lines, rooftops of houses and outbuildings destroyed, it was a severe hit to the area. We’ve worked with other agencies, the Lacona Fire Department, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, and the Warren County Engineer’s Office has been working feverishly to get all the roads open and make sure the area is clear so people can get back to work and around town.”
Bass also said that if any residents are still affected, whether it be a power outage, debris, or other situation, to contact the Lacona Fire Department or Warren County Emergency Management, or if it is an emergency to dial 911.
