The Eagles football team faltered in the 4th quarter of an otherwise back-and-forth, see-saw game, losing to conference rival Oskaloosa 29-22 in the season debut heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
Pella Christian fell behind 13-0 early in the second quarter, but turned two interceptions into two rushing touchdowns by Dan Jungling and Cody Boender.
Oskaloosa struck just before the half to go up 19-16, but the Eagles responded again with 10-play, 60 yard drive, capped off with a fourth down conversion touchdown.
The Indians keep finding opportunities with great field position, and tied the game with a 34 yard field goal at the start of the 4th quarter and their defense tightened, as the Eagles gained only 46 yards in their final three series of the game. Assistant Coach Verlan Nikkel says the team’s inexperience in key areas showed at inopportune times.
David Willis made quite the debut for the Eagles, with seven tackles, two for loss, and an interception. Dan Jungling finished with 169 yards passing and 65 yards rushing. The Eagles are 0-1 with Van Meter looming next Friday at Eagle Lane.
