A week from today the residents of Marion County will have the opportunity to meet and thank local first responders during the annual Public Safety Night on Wednesday, September 11th. The event will be held from 5 pm to 7pm on the square in downtown and will include a free will offering meal courtesy of the Knoxville Hy-Vee grill. This year’s event which is being sponsored by the Knoxville Hy-Vee and KNIA/KRLS will also feature awards that will be handed out to local first responders for the work they do on a daily basis. Knoxville Hy-Vee Store Director, Kelly Kayser tells KNIA/KRLS News she is excited for the event as it is always great to say thank you to our first responders who keep us safe on a daily basis. Awards that will be handed out this year include Marion County Firefighter of the Year, Marion County Dispatcher of the Year, Marion County Emergency Medical Services Person of the Year, Public Works/Engineering Person of the Year, and Marion County Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. Of the five awardees, one will be named as the 2019 Marion County Public Safety Person of the Year. The KNIA/KRLS Lil’ Big Red Radio will also be on hand, playing music and making announcements.
