IYP presented a check to the Feeding Indianola’s Kids charity Wednesday for $10,000 at Whittier Elementary, the money raised from the Putt Putt and Pints event held on the downtown Indianola square in May. Nick Carda with IYP tells KNIA News Feeding Indianola’s Kids goes towards a cause that was a need in the district.

“A few years ago we were aware of events, and even recently it happens, it’s called food shaming. Children whose families couldn’t afford hot lunches, but didn’t qualify for financial assistance, they were getting just a milk and a cheese sandwich. So instead of just talking about it and saying it stinks for those kids, we wanted to do something about it. It’s tough enough being a kid nowadays. One less thing to be picked on about, you don’t want any kid to be singled out because they can’t have what another kid has because of a money situation. So making sure we can help out in some small way is a great thing.”

Carda also said the response from the community for the event was amazing, and he thanks the participants and sponsors such as Downey Tire and Iowa Metal Fabrication for helping the cause.
