Jimmy Owens played a waiting game on Saturday night at the Knoxville Raceway. For one he and everyone had to wait out and hour-long rain delay just after the B-Main, then he waited for his chance to strike while picking his way from the 18th starting spot to grab the lead from Brandon Shepperd on lap 86. Owens then had to fight off a wild charge by Shepperd on the last lao to win by less than a car length. Owens said he found the middle of the track was the way to go around. Shepperd had to settle for second while Hudson O’Neal came in third place. Owens set a record of sorts as he won from the farthest back in the line up at 18th. This concluded the 2019 racing season at the Knoxville Raceway, and it also concluded the legendary career of chief flagman Doug Clark, who officially retired after 37 seasons at Knoxville.
