A Knoxville woman was arrested Tuesday following an incident in May in which law enforcement was contacted by the Department of Human Services regarding drug paraphernalia located in a home in Knoxville where children were present. According to court documents, on May 16th, police confirmed that a metal pipe seized by a DHS worker at a home in Knoxville was used for smoking a controlled substance. A search warrant was issued for the home and upon further investigation law enforcement officers located a container which contained several plastic bags, a digital scale, 34 pills not in a bottle later identified as Hydroxyzine Pamoate and Clonazepam, a schedule four controlled substance, as well as 1.2 grams of a crystalline substance that field tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine. The resident of the home, 29-year-old Nichole Speirs of Knoxville, was interviewed by police to which she also gave them consent to search her cell phone. Upon searching messages, it was determined that Speirs was distributing a controlled substance.At the time the search warrant was served, two children under the age of five were present in the home. Officers also located syringes with no protective caps covering the hypodermic needle and syringes with protective caps on the floor in areas accessible to the children. A green leafy substance that field tested positive for marijuana was also located under the living room couch within reach of the children. Speirs was arrested and charged with a controlled substance violation a class C felony, two counts of child endangerment, both aggravated misdemeanors, unlawful possession of prescription drugs, a serious misdemeanor and possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor.
