Pella Regional Health Center now offers mammograms with the SmartCurve™ breast stabilization system. Medical Imaging Supervisor Marilou Ozinga says the technology provides greater comfort than mammograms with standard compression. The curved design of the compression device mirrors the shape of a woman’s breast to reduce pinching and applies uniform compression over the entire breast for added comfort.
She says mammograms are a woman’s best defense in detecting breast cancer early, but the fear of pain causes many to delay scheduling an annual scan.
“With the new SmartCurve™ system, we hope more women will not only schedule their annual mammograms in a timely manner, but have a better experience overall,” said Ozinga.
The American Cancer Society recommends yearly mammograms after age 40. Pella Regional Health Center is recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness month with the annual Pella in Pink 2 mile walk/run on Saturday, October 19th at 8 a.m. The KNIA/KRLS Save-A-Life Radiothon will be held earlier that week from 5 to 7 p.m. on October 15th at Knoxville Hospital and Clinics and 4 to 6 p.m. on October 17th at Pella Regional.
