Local legislators met with the Pella School Board at their meeting Monday. The annual forum featured State Senators Ken Rozenboom and Amy Sinclair, as well as Representative Dustin Hite, to interact with the board in a public meeting to discuss key issues for public schools ahead of the upcoming legislative session in January. Hite says it’s important to have a direct dialogue with the people making decisions for education at a local level, and to share the opportunities and challenges lawmakers face in Des Moines. Rozenboom says both he and Senator Sinclair serve on the Education Committee, so finding out what’s working and what isn’t is an important tool when developing legislation for education. The discussion focused on issues relating to funding, programming, and state support for local initiatives.
