Central College football kicker Jon Alberts (senior, Huntley, Ill.) was one of 37 kickers nationwide named to the Fred Mitchell Award September Watch List Monday.
Kickers from all non-Division I FBS schools are eligible for the award based on athletic performance and community service. This year’s list includes 15 kickers from Division III schools and nine other seniors. Alberts was previously on the preseason watch-list for the same award. Alberts has converted all 25 extra point attempts this season. He is 3 for 4 on field goal attempts, including a season-long 48-yard field goal. On 22 kickoffs, Alberts has totaled 1,775 yards for an average of 53.8 yards. Six of his attempts have gone for touchbacks.
Alberts was a first-team all-conference kicker in 2017 and 2018, adding a D3football.com All-West Region honor in 2018. He’s been the conference special teams player of the week seven times in his career, including twice already in 2019.
A National Honors Society member in high school, Alberts has participated in Central College’s Service Day with trips to the Children and Family Urban Movement in Des Moines to renovate and spend time with the children.
D3football.com named Alberts a preseason All-American for 2019.
The Dutch (4-1, 2-1 American Rivers Conference) travel to Buena Vista University Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
