One of the tenets for the Indianola School District as they move on to a more digital and technology based curriculum, is to promote good digital citizenship. Technology Integration Coach Ali Sauter tells KNIA News the district uses six pillars of digital citizenship from common sense media, including media balance and well being, privacy and security, digital footprint and identity, relations and communication, cyber-bullying and hate speech, and news and media literacy, as a template for the district to pass down even to elementary age kids. The Indianola Middle School students currently all have chromebooks, while Indianola High School students use Macbook Airs, and the district is working on bringing technology down to the elementary schools as well. Sauter also said common sense media is a great resource for parents to use when trying to communicate with kids inside an ever-changing digital world.
