It was a special and record-setting night for the Knoxville Panthers at Ken Locke Stadium on Friday night with Knoxville beating Newton 41-14 on senior night. The Panthers got their sixth win, Keegan Cox got his record-setting eighth interception of the season breaking a 41 year old mark set by Randy Rogers in 1978. The other record set was one no one saw coming. Carter Bailey ran the ball 27 times for school record 321 yards and four touchdowns. Bailey broke a record held by Grant Grgurich in 2005. The Panthers were also without head coach Eric Kellar, who was serving a suspension for being ejected from last week’s game. Assistant Coach Chris Hudson told KRLS Sports Bailey benefitted from Newton’s defense crowding the line and the line opening gaping holes for him. The Panthers finished with a 6-3 record which is the best record since the 2005 team that also went 6-3.
