Recently, 36-year-old Nathan Adams of Knoxville was arrested following allegations that Adams made threats toward law enforcement officers and tortured a six month old puppy. According to court documents the puppy was found in a kennel in the garage of Adam’s residence. The kennel was full of urine and feces, with the emaciated puppy barely able to walk. Officers seized the puppy and took it to a veterinarian for emergency treatment. An examination showed the puppy to be severely malnourished with two broken rear legs and a puncture wound on the top of its head. According to the Marion County Humane Society the dog which they named Zena from “Zena Warrior Princess” is currently in foster care and as of Monday weighed in at 22 lbs. The humane society is currently accepting donations to help pay for surgery for Zena which is estimated to cost between $8,000 to $10,000. According to Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada his department is currently seeking a court order to gain complete custody of the dog. Losada says, as with any animal cruelty case law enforcement takes control of the animal and then seeks a court order to gain custody and control of the animal so that it may be treated adequatly and properly and eventually relocated if appropriate. According to the Marion County Humane Society the National Humane Society will conduct a conference at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum on Thursday, November 7th from 6:30 to 8:30 pm to discuss legislation regarding animal torture.
