A trend of enrollment growth continued in the Pella Community School District, according to certified numbers presented to the school board Monday. Superintendent Greg Ebeling says 26 more students are being served in the district this academic year compared to 2018-19, which is continuing a slight increase in the number of kids in classes over the past few years. Ebeling says the October 1st headcount largely determines the per pupil funding the school district receives for the following fiscal year in the general fund, which is used to pay teacher salaries and for programming. Ebeling says if the Iowa Legislature approves a healthy increase to state supplemental aid in the upcoming session in January, that–coupled with the enrollment increase, would keep Pella in great shape overall as it relates to school district finances moving forward.
