Central junior quarterback Blaine Hawkins has been named the American Rivers Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. It’s the third time this season he has received the honor.
Hawkins threw for 326 yards and tied the school record with six touchdowns in Central’s 57-56 overtime win over seventh-ranked Wartburg on Saturday. That win put the Dutch in position to clinch the outright conference title with a win over Coe on Saturday. Hawkins says the Dutch have their eyes on the prize, and they have a chance to go out and get it.
Central will travel to Coe on Saturday for the regular season finale with the chance for their first conference title since 2009. Saturday’s kickoff is slated for 1:00 at Clark Field in Cedar Rapids. The game will be broadcast live on 92.1 KRLS.
