During a visit to Central College this week, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig discussed the ongoing challenges farmers have faced after one of the wettest crop production years on record. Naig says the constant delays and high moisture seen statewide has caused additional issues, including an increased demand for propane. He says the colder than average fall has only made matters worse for the fuel supply many farmers rely on to heat outbuildings and dry out crops before they head to market. Naig says Governor Kim Reynolds has lifted several restrictions to increase propane transportation routes to the state, in hopes of not only meeting current demand, but to make sure all are prepared for the cold days of winter. According to the Iowa Department of Agriculture’s latest report, more than three-fourths of corn has been harvested and nearly all soybeans are finished.
