Both Tulip City girls basketball teams were at home, with the Lady Dutch opening the season with a 57-35 home win over Mt. Pleasant and the Eagles falling to No. 1 in 1A Montezuma 63-40 on Eagle Lane.

Pella controlled their game from the onset, jumping to a 17-6 lead after one quarter and 38-20 advantage at halftime. The Lady Dutch were paced by 14 points by Faith Diers and 12 from Anna Vander Waal.

Pella Christian played better than Monday, according to Head Coach Brad Engbers, despite the end result against the Braves. Allison Van Gorp had 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Chloe Morgan scored 11 with three assists and three steals.

The 1-0 Lady Dutch head to No. 2 in 3A North Polk on Tuesday, while the Eagles will go to ADM that same night. Both games can be heard on the opening night of broadcasts on 92.1 KRLS and the KRLS2 stream.
