The Pella City Council approved an ordinance expanding what establishments minors can be in that sell alcohol at their meeting Tuesday evening. The rule will allow minors to remain upon the premises of licensed establishments when less than 50% of the business’s gross income is attributed to alcohol sales, regardless if the other half or more is food or entertainment. The provision does not apply to holders of Class C beer permits or to microbrewery rules passed prior for Class B and A license holders. Council also approved a resolution amending the Design Review District Design Manual and set a public hearing for January 21st to approve a contract to complete DNR-mandated Wastewater Treatment improvements. Following regular business, discussion was held regarding the city’s sidewalk inspection and repair program. City Councilmember Larry Peterson was recognized for his service by Mayor Jim Mueller. Peterson is retiring after eight years in the seat, which will be held by Dave Hopkins beginning January 1st.
