The Central basketball teams will host their first doubleheader of the season this evening, as Wartburg makes the trip to Pella for an early-season American Rivers Conference tilt. While Central has one conference game under their belts, tonight’s doubleheader is the conference opener for Wartburg.

The women’s game will feature an upstart Central team facing arguably its stiffest competition of the season so far. The 8th-ranked Knights have proven to be a perennial national power, qualifying for two of the last four Final Fours, and have not lost to the Dutch this decade.

The Central men have lost five straight to Wartburg, but the teams will renew a series with a colorful history as of late. Wartburg holds an 8-7 lead in the series since 2014, and the teams have met twice in the conference tournament championship game. Both teams have struggled early in the season so far, as Wartburg enters on a four-game skid.

Tonight’s doubleheader will be broadcast on the KRLS3 stream. Jon Mohwinkle begins his first season of broadcasting Central Basketball, beginning with pregame coverage at 5:15. Tip-off of the women’s game is scheduled for 5:30 inside P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium in Pella.
