Several local high school and college dance teams competed at the Iowa State Dance & Drill Team Association state competition late last week.

Pella Forte placed 1st place in Large School Military (361 points), 4th in Class XI pom (355.5 points), and 5th in Class II Kick (340.5). All scores were Division I ratings. Pella also earned the Academic Excellence Award.

Knoxville ended with a 5th place finish in Class X Pom with 333 points, 5th in Class II Novelty with 359.5 points, and a 2nd place finish in Class II Lyrical with 379 points. All three competitions earned a Division I rating. They also earned the Distinguished Academic Award and Outstanding Community Service Award — one of six teams to earn that mark.

PCM High School was the Class IV Hip Hop and Class II Novelty champions (350.5 and 385 points respectively) and 2nd in Class VIII pom (371.5 points).

Pleasantville was the top finisher in Class I Color Guard, with 279.5 points, another first place finish in Class VI Pom with 361.5 points, and earned a 3rd place finish in Class II Novelty with 370.5 points. Pleasantville also earned the Outstanding Academic Award (Average Team GPA is 3.93—tied for 2nd highest in the state) and Outstanding Community Service Award.

Pella Christian Shine placed 4th in Class VII pom (356 points), 7th in Class III Jazz (352.5 points), and 4th in Class I Lyrical (339 points). All scores were Division I ratings. The also earned the Distinguished Academic Award.

Indianola Impulse earned an 8th place finish in the Class XII Pom, scoring 334 points, a 6th place finish in Class VII Hip Hop with 329 points, and a 7th place finish in Class IV Lyrical with 338 points. All three competitions earned a Division I rating.

Central College performed well in the Division III competition, winning the Division II/III pom competition (281 points) and Division III Hip Hop (337.5) championships, and tying for first in the Division III Jazz Category.

Simpson College earned a second place finish in Division II/II Pom, a third place finish in Division III Hip Hop, and a second place finish in Division III Jazz.

Melcher-Dallas earned Division II ratings in Class I pom and small school prop.

Twin Cedars earned Division II ratings in Class I jazz and pom.
