Indianola Wrestling Takes down Dallas Center-Grimes

The Indianola wrestling team continued their hot start to the season by taking down the Mustangs of Dallas Center-Grimes on the road Thursday evening 38-16. The Indians got wins by fall from Ryder Downey at 120lbs, Brennan Meacham at 152lbs, Jaylin Smith at 220lbs, and Cael Crawford at heavyweight. Other winners for the Indians included Cooper Belt at 126lbs, Nick Bonnano at 160lbs, and Miles Berg at 195lbs. The Indians will next compete in a tournament at Johnston tomorrow.

Indianola Basketball Squads Host Pella

Coming off of a doubleheader sweep of Warren County rival Carlisle, the Indianola girls and boys basketball squads get back to Little Hawkeye Conference play hosting Pella tonight. The Indians girls are over .500 on the season and on a two-game winning streak, and will try to continue to capitalize on their balanced scoring, seeing three players averaging double-digit scoring numbers in Kendall Clatt, Lauren Blake, and Mara Bishop. The Indians boys are fresh off their first win of the season against the Wildcats, and will have their hands full against a Little Dutch team that has yet to score less than 83 points in a game this season. Head coach Brett Watson tells KNIA Sports his team is still finding out the best way they can play, but he is seeing marked improvement through just three games.

“They’re bringing the energy, that’s the first part. The attitude has been awesome also. We’ve talked about this last Sunday, this team has a high ceiling, and we’re not even close to that right now. We keep bringing the effort, keep bringing the attitude I think we are going to keep getting better as the season progresses. We are making mistakes right now but I think we are already starting to correct a few and we will continue to do that as we move on.”

The games can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA, with Andrew Swadner and Rick Wilson on the play-by-play. Pregame coverage begins at 6pm, with tip-off scheduled for 6:15.
