The Pella wrestling team was sixth out of 15 teams competing at the Saydel Invitational Saturday. The Dutch finished with a team score of 118 points, with some of the largest schools the team has seen to date competing. Ryan Hancock and Braydon Peterson each were runners-up in the 113 and heavyweight weight classes respectively, with each going 3-1 on the day and falling in the finals. Ryan Van Donselaar (145) and Ethan Milligan (160) each placed 4th, and Petyon Ritzert (120) and CJ Smith (195) were 5th place finishers. Pella Head Coach Jay Pike says a busy week continues for Pella, with two home meets coming this week, starting with a triangular with Clarke and Newton Tuesday.
“It should be exciting, we match up with Newton pretty well as far as weight by weight–it’ll be a battle,” Pike says. “Clarke is going to bring us some great talent, and hopefully we can get some great matches in with them.”
The home meet begins at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Pella High School. To wrap up the 2019 portion of the season, Pella will then host the Bill Van Horn Invitational Saturday at 10 a.m. with nine other teams.
