The class 4A #14 Knoxville Girls Basketball Squad remained unbeaten on Friday with a 66-39 win over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont as heard on 95.3 KNIA. The Panthers struggled a bit on defense in the first half, plus both teams had to endure a 15 minute scoreboard malfunction between the first and second quarters. The Panthers shut down the Rockets in the second half, limiting them to just 18 points while scoring 35 of their own. Coach Jim Uitermarkt told KRLS Sports one the defense got going it was easier to find shots on offense.
Uitermarkt:
“Biggest thing in the first half was we were not as happy with our defense as we have been. But when we ramped that up things started rolling for us.”
Katie Keitges and Maggie Wilkins, was ill and channelled her inner Michael Jordan, scored 44 of Knoxville’s 66 points with both ringing up 22 a piece. Marley McKay did a little bit of everything with ten points and was in double figures in rebounds for a double-double. Knoxville finishes the pre-Christmas season 7-0 and 4-0 in the South Central Conference. The Panthers next game in January third against Bondurant-Farrar.
