One of the main goals of the City of Indianola’s project to update the city codes is to be able to work better with new businesses. Community and Economic Development Director Charlie Dissell tells KNIA News the city recently had to go through a process to better work with newer businesses such as AirBnB and microbreweries, and keeping up can often be difficult.
“Ten years ago we didn’t have AirBnB, so we don’t have that short term rental addressed in our ordinances. Not that we have an AirBnB problem, but there are homes that take advantage and utilize that website. We have a hotel/motel guest tax in our city, so we are just trying to bring consistency to those transient type uses.”
Dissell also said as Indianola continues to grow, it will be important for the city to continue its due diligence to make sure that not only businesses want to come here, but that they serve the area in the best way possible for residents.
