The Simpson women’s basketball team won their second straight holiday tournament, taking down Washington and Lee in the winners bracket 83-71. The Storm continued their recent streak of getting off to a fast start, leading 26-17 after the first quarter then playing mostly even the rest of the way. After getting handily outrebounded in several of their losses this season, the Storm have hit the boards harder during their recent five game winning streak, and assistant women’s basketball coach Moran Lonning tells KNIA Sports that has been a big difference.

“Rebounding is just want to. That’s what I like, it’s controllable. We can get better, we can box the bigger girls out. I think we can become a better rebounding team, and once we get better at that I think that can fix a lot of problems.”

Freshman Cassie Nash had a breakout game with 26 points, while Cassie Chubb had 12 points and 15 rebounds. The Storm improve to 9-3 overall, and will next play on the road at Nebraska Wesleyan next Wednesday.
