Senior Guard Emery Sage has been a huge factor in the Saints’ success so far this season. He leads the team in 3-point shooting at 43 percent, and is third in scoring on the team with an average of 10.4 points per game. Head Coach Jim Wells says he’s taken a big step that has led to recent success.

“I believe he’s always been a very good shooter, even the past couple years he’s started for us but you can’t always get him to shoot the ball, I say that as still a positive, but there’s multiple times he’s been open in the past and he won’t take that shot, and maybe now that he’s a senior and he recognizes that he can knock the shots down and the other players have seen him knock them down–not only in games, but in practice, so I think he gets his hands on the ball a lot more than he has in the past.”

Coach Wells says having a sharp shooter from the 3 point line adds a lot to any team.

“They have got to go out and guard him, and they gotta get there quick, and he’s a pretty good dribble, drive and dish guy too, so he can knock down a few of them and if they get out on him he can dribble, drive and kick to someone, so yeah, it opens up a lot of other people in the offense.”

The Saints will be on the court Monday for their Bluegrass Conference matchup against Murray High School.
