The PCM wrestling team competed on their home mat for the first time this season Thursday evening, hosting Saydel and Woodward-Granger in a triangular. The Mustangs picked up their first dual win of the season in the opener against Saydel by a final count of 46-27. Mustangs Donovan Nicholson at 220 and Payton Drake at 138 each pinned their opponents. PCM was also the beneficiary of five forfeits in the dual.

The Mustangs were unable to carry the momentum into the nightcap against Woodward-Granger, falling 47-33. Landon Fenton at 132, 138-pounder Peyton Drake, Will Vanderpool at 160 and Cooper Sloan at 195 each picked up pins in the dual. PCM head coach Jeff Nicholson says his team was able to feed off the energy from the home crowd for the first time this season.

“The home crowd definitely brings an energy we don’t get when we’re away. The wrestlers, when they go out, they get their own music played, they’re more excited for the matches. The atmosphere here, it’s loud, this gym gets loud when things are going our way out there on the mat.”

PCM will look to carry the energy from their first win of the season into their home tournament on Saturday. PCM will be one of 14 schools competing, with the first matches of the day getting underway at 9:15 a.m. at PCM High School.
